Mayor Sadovyi tells where he hides dismantled Lviv pavement

“We are storing and using the dismantled pavement of Lviv for the benefit of the city,” emphasized Andriy Sadovyi in his latest video address on Sunday.

All the paving stones that we remove from Lviv streets are accounted for and their quantity is recorded, then transferred to various warehouses for storage. The main storage facility for these paving stones is located on the territory of Lvivvodokanal’s treatment facilities. That is, every stone from Shevchenko, Bandera, Pekarska, and other streets is not only counted, but also properly protected. And when the time comes to use this paving stone again, the process of transferring it is necessarily carried out under public control at a meeting of the executive committee or city council, which is broadcast online on social media and on the YouTube channels of the Lviv City Council. This was confirmed by the mayor of Lviv, Andriy Sadovyi, in his video message.

To date, more than 21,000 square meters of paving stones, more than 2,000 square meters of mosaics and more than 2,000 square meters of curbstones of various types – from board to granite – are stored in Lviv. As explained by the Department of Housing and Infrastructure of the Lviv City Council, when it is necessary to dismantle paving stones during repair work or work on the road surface, these paving stones are dismantled, recorded and transported for storage under an acceptance certificate.

Further, if district administrations or the Lvivavtodor utility company need this pavement, they receive it only by a decision of the executive committee or a resolution of the session. Paving stones are handed over only if the relevant documents are available.

“People often ask: where is the paving stone that used to be on the streets now? Today we have more than 23 thousand square meters of paving stones and mosaics in our warehouses. It is here waiting for its time, and when the time of Victory comes, we will continue to use it,” added Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi.

The stones are mainly used to cover roads in the Halychyna and Lychakiv districts. There are also cases when the city provides several square meters of paving stones and mosaics to religious organizations to arrange sidewalks near churches.
