The world only respects the strong: Sadovyi on the new rules of the game with the United States

Mayor Andriy Sadovyi, whose 18-year tenure in Lviv has been marked by constant scandals and unresolved problems in the city, visited the United States again. This time, the mayor tried to impress his American counterparts with pompous speeches about the “price of freedom” at the Mayors’ Forum in Washington, DC.

Despite his loud statements and emotional speeches, Sadovyi himself had to admit that interest in his rhetoric had cooled. According to him, Americans have begun asking “direct questions without excessive political correctness” – probably about the real results of his management of the city and the use of the aid provided earlier.

The mayor, who is famous for his love of pompous speeches, tried to impress the American audience with metaphors about “accumulating electricity from emotions.” However, even Sadovyi himself had to admit that Western partners are already tired of eloquence and demand concrete actions and results.

It is telling that despite the “global change in mood” and “more pragmatism” in relations with partners, which the mayor himself talks about, he continues to spend budget funds on foreign business trips instead of directing them to solving numerous city problems. It is hoped that upon his return home, Sadovyi will finally remember his direct responsibilities as mayor, and not just his international travels.
