The Lviv City Council has decided to increase the land tax rate by an unprecedented 12 times. This decision caused public outrage, especially against the backdrop of recent news about excessive bonuses for officials and the purchase of expensive official cars.
According to the activists, the new tax rates will hit hard the pockets of Lviv residents, who are already suffering from high inflation and utility tariffs. At the same time, city officials continue to receive exorbitant bonuses and salary supplements.
“It looks like an outright mockery to demand that people pay 12 times more when officials themselves buy Mercedes and luxury real estate for budget funds,” writes Andriy Petryshyn, head of the NGO Audit Lviv.
In response to this decision of the city authorities, civic activists launched a petition demanding to cancel the land tax increase. They call on all concerned Lviv residents to support the initiative and demonstrate to the local authorities that such decisions cannot be made without public discussion.
