Estonians sue ex-deputy Andriy Sadovyi for stolen humanitarian aid

The Estonian civil society organization Glory to Ukraine has filed a civil lawsuit against Hennadiy Vaskiv, the former deputy mayor of Lviv and longtime mayor of Andriy Sadovyi. The claim is for more than UAH 38 million, which, if satisfied, will be transferred to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The lawsuit was filed by the organization’s liquidator, Ilmar Raag. According to him, the claim covers more than UAH 18 million in direct financial losses and about UAH 20 million in reputational damage.

The key point is that the person involved in the case is not an outsider, but Sadovyi’s former deputy, who for many years was part of the Lviv management team.

According to the investigation, Vaskiv’s All for Victory Foundation and a related company, IC Construction, purchased humanitarian goods at inflated prices. Part of the donors’ funds could be withdrawn as profit.

Investigators found that the company was established in 2021 and registered in the names of fictitious persons, and later re-registered in the names of relatives. In the period 2022-2023, 1.55 million euros (over UAH 59 million) could have been withdrawn through it.

It is also about more than UAH 18 million due to overpricing and another UAH 772 thousand of EIB funds.

It is significant that Vaskiv went abroad during the investigation and did not return. His family also left Ukraine.

This scandal is already being called a direct reputational blow to Andriy Sadovyi, who has been the head of Lviv for more than 20 years.
