Community pressure forced Sadovyi to refuse to increase land tax 12 times

The Lviv City Council responded to the community’s appeal and canceled the controversial decision to increase the land tax. This became known from the official response to the petition published on the E-Dem platform on January 9, 2025.

The petition, initiated by lawyer Maria Mayevska, called for the abolition of Resolution No. 4967 of July 4, 2024. The document envisaged a significant increase in the land tax rate in the Lviv Metropolitan Territorial Community – from 1% to 3% for land owners and up to 12% for land users on the right of permanent use.

On December 31, 2024, at the plenary session of the city council, the deputies considered the electronic petition. Forty-nine deputies voted in favor of repealing the resolution, one abstained, and four did not participate in the vote.

Earlier, representatives of garage cooperatives, lawyers, and civic activists held a press conference to emphasize the threats to small businesses and cooperatives due to the tax increase.

According to lawyer and activist Andriy Petryshyn, a co-organizer of the conference, the land tax rate for permanent users of land plots currently remains at 1%. At the same time, the issue of taxation for land owners requires additional regulation.

“Thanks to the joint efforts of the community, we managed to prevent the introduction of an excessive land tax in the Lviv city territorial community,” commented Andriy Petryshyn.
