We have only “10% of greedy pensioners” – Sadovyi City Hall justifies restrictions on preferential travel

The Lviv City Council has come up with an ingenious response to the court ruling that the restriction of privileged travel is illegal. It turns out that pensioners in Lviv are too much of a party animal – as many as 10% of them dare to travel more than 60 times a month!

“How dare they use public transportation so often?” – the mayor’s office is indignant, where they calculated that “some” 54 million hryvnias are spent monthly on transportation of privileged people. The officials were particularly outraged by one “impudent” resident of Lviv who managed to make 452 trips in a month. Apparently, he was just riding for fun, not because he was working two jobs to survive on his pension.

The Department of Urban Mobility argues that it is their sacred right to decide how many times pensioners can ride public transportation. After all, it was the city that “gave” them this benefit, not the state. In general, 76% of beneficiaries travel less than 40 times a month, so why should others travel more?

In addition, the mayor’s office reminds us of a generous bonus – a free transfer! So pensioners can make “not 60, but much more free trips.” However, officials forgot to explain how this works with the 60-trip limit.

Now the city is preparing an appeal against the court’s decision. Apparently, to prove that it is wrong for pensioners to travel so often, especially during the war. It is better to let them stay at home.
