Residents of the village of Zbyranka and homeowners from the gardening cooperatives “Sonyachnyi” and “Samotsvity” in the Lviv community opposed the construction of a crematorium near their homes. The situation was reported by lawyer and civic activist Andriy Petryshyn on his Facebook page.
According to local residents, a large-scale facility with several cremation ovens is planned to be built directly opposite their homes. The community is outraged that construction began without prior approval from residents of the surrounding areas.
The locals claim that the project was implemented with significant violations of construction and environmental laws. To protect the interests of the community, the lawyers are collecting the necessary documentation, which, if the city authorities refuse to provide voluntarily, they plan to demand through the court.
Andriy Petryshyn also drew attention to the previous projects of Mayor Andriy Sadovyi that caused a public outcry: the construction of a stadium for EURO 2012, a waste processing plant on Plastova Street, and now a crematorium in the village of Zbyranka. The activist suggested that the mayor would hardly be happy if such a facility was built near his own house on Strilska Street.
