Mayor of rear-guard Lviv Andriy Sadovyi accused of refusing to help frontline regions

Recently, the public debate has intensified around the readiness of rear cities to help the regions that suffer the most from the war. In particular, Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi and his colleagues from other rear cities who refuse to allocate part of their budget resources to help the frontline regions are at the center of the discussion.

Public outrage has been caused by the fact that mayors of rear cities that have hosted businesses displaced from the frontline areas now receive substantial revenues to local budgets. However, these funds remain in the rear communities and are spent on local needs, such as landscaping or infrastructure projects, rather than on supporting regions where people live under fire every day.

“Are you sane at all? Have you smelled unplanned budget revenues and forgotten about your basic conscience? Is laying paving stones and your own PR more important to you than helping people who are constantly in danger and need social support?” writes the Joker telegram channel.

The situation has escalated to the point where it is being discussed at the central level. Some politicians emphasize the importance of the country’s unity in times of war and urge mayors to forget about political differences and ambitions. They emphasize: “Ukraine must be united, and support for the frontline regions must be a common priority. This is not the time to incite hatred, but rather to consolidate efforts.

Joker believes that in times of war, the allocation of resources should take into account the needs of the frontline regions, which are currently experiencing a particularly acute shortage of funds for basic social needs, infrastructure and support for people who remain in the war zone. The government and civil society organizations are calling on the mayors of rear-guard cities not to stand aside but to join in supporting the regions most affected by the war.
