Sadovyi threatens to block construction in Lviv after losing control over developers

Four-time mayor of Lviv Andriy Sadovyi does not hide his irritation at the loss of control over the city’s construction business. The reason was the decision of the Sixth Kyiv Court of Appeal to cancel the historical and architectural reference plan of Lviv, which significantly limits the ability of the city authorities to dictate terms to developers.

The deprivation of influential levers of control over construction documentation caused a violent reaction from Sadovyi, who resorted to populist statements and threats on social media. The mayor, whose team has long had a significant influence on the city’s construction business, is now threatening to physically block construction equipment.

In his emotional post, Sadovyi hinted at the possibility of organizing protests, mentioning “warm tea and a barrel with a fire” for those who would block construction cranes. However, the mayor delicately avoided any personal involvement in such actions, limiting himself to general appeals.

Experts see the mayor’s reaction as an attempt to maintain control over the city’s lucrative construction industry. The situation caused a wave of ironic comments on social media, where users ridicule Sadovyi’s threats and his unwillingness to lose administrative influence over developers.

Instead of engaging in a constructive dialogue and finding legal ways to resolve the situation, Sadovyi’s team resorts to populist rhetoric and threats, which raises doubts about the true motives behind such a violent reaction to the court decision.
