October 24, 2024Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi once again evaded a direct answer about his participation in the upcoming elections, hiding behind the need to solve the city’s current problems. The mayor said that the issue of elections would be discussed “only after the onset of peace.”
“God willing, we will have some time of respite and there will be at least a temporary peace agreement. During this peaceful time, we will have to do everything possible to rebuild our state from within,” Sadovyi said, adding that it is “unethical” to spend time on electoral issues now.
At the same time, the mayor of Lviv managed to share his vision of local government reform, proposing to cut the deputy corps in half and eliminate district councils.
As a reminder, elections in Ukraine are not possible due to martial law. The presidential election, which was scheduled to take place in March 2024, and the parliamentary election, which was scheduled for October 2023, have been postponed. Experts suggest that elections may be held in 2025.
