Does he want to fly to his sons in Europe? Sadovyi talks about opening Lviv airport

While most Ukrainian cities are under the constant threat of missile attacks, Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi, whose sons study at European universities, has unexpectedly started talking about resuming air travel. He said this in an interview with RBC Ukraine.

Despite the obvious risks to the safety of civil aviation in times of war, the mayor of Lviv insists on the importance of discussing this issue in expert circles. “There are issues of state security and people’s security. We have to survive under any circumstances,” Sadovyi said, possibly referring to his own regular trips to Europe.

According to the mayor, at least one of Ukraine’s numerous airports should resume operations. And, of course, Danylo Halytskyi Lviv International Airport, located 6 kilometers from the city center, is seen as the main contender. Time will tell whether it will become a convenient transportation hub for the European voyages of the mayor and his family.

“The decision will be made taking into account all security factors,” Sadovyi assures, although experts warn of the extreme risk of resuming civilian air traffic in the face of active hostilities.
