Oleh Khandyn, an official of the Lviv City Council, was caught taking a bribe, according to Lviv media and the SBU Office in Lviv region.
Oleh Khandyn, who heads the Department of Historic Environment Protection of the Lviv City Council, was detained by law enforcement for receiving a $1,250 bribe. The total amount of the bribe was $2000. It is noted that the official intended to approve the accounting documentation for the architectural monument, as well as to assist the applicant during the trial.
The Security Service of Ukraine eliminated a corruption scheme operating in the Lviv City Council.
As a result of complex measures in Lviv, an official of the Department of Historical Environment Protection of this state institution was detained. He demanded bribes for the “approval” of documentation in the urban planning sphere.
Corrupt official Oleh Khandyn, contrary to the law, guaranteed “assistance” in the preparation of documentation for the reconstruction of real estate within the historical area of Lviv.
The defendant estimated his services at USD 2,000.
In return, he promised to influence his colleagues at the Department of Architecture and Urban Development of the Lviv Regional State Administration.
SBU officers documented the criminal actions of the defendant and detained him red-handed while receiving a part of the bribe – USD 1,250.
Law enforcement officers conducted searches in the offices of the Lviv City Council and at the suspect’s residence, during which they found and seized documentation confirming the illegal activity.
The bribe-taking official has already been served a notice of suspicion under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:
- Part 3 of Art. 368 (acceptance of an offer, promise or receipt of an unlawful benefit by an official);
- ч. 3 Art. 369-2 (abuse of influence).
Documents are being prepared for the selection of a preventive measure.
The investigation is ongoing to clarify all the circumstances and identify other participants in the illegal scheme.
The operation was carried out by operatives of the SBU Lviv Department jointly with investigators of the Lviv Region Police under the supervision of the Lviv Region Prosecutor’s Office.
This is not the first time that Andriy Sadovyi’s employees have been caught red-handed, as we previously reported that the Security Service of Ukraine detained the acting head of one of the departments of the Lviv City Council and a local architect close to the mayor, Andriy Sadovyi.
