Lviv residents demand to put an end to corruption in Lviv City Council
June 22, 2023For several years, Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi has been illegally giving huge bonuses to his deputies. The regulations state that this issue is subject to review and discussion at the plenary session of the city council at least once a quarter. A report from a particular deputy is a prerequisite.
“The deputies have to evaluate the deputies, and then, based on their performance, they are given a bonus. No deputy mayor has ever reported to the deputy corps, but the mayor clearly gives his deputies huge bonuses every month or even twice a month ,” says Yuriy Lomaha, a deputy of the Lviv City Council.
The statement of deputy Lomaha is confirmed by documents on the bonuses for deputy mayors of Sadovyi. The generous allocation of budget funds was made on the basis of direct orders from the mayor. They were signed by Andriy Sadovyi personally, contrary to the requirements of the regulations. Such decisions led to the embezzlement of funds from the city budget. We are talking about tens of millions of hryvnias.
“These monthly bonuses are within two hundred percent of their official salaries. But in addition to bonuses, there are also payments of various financial assistance, for health improvement, and for improving social and living conditions ,” said Natalia Shelestak, head of the City Council’s budget committee.
Investigative journalists called on the NACP to check the activities of Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi as soon as possible.
“Law enforcement officers must put an end to actions that are corrupt and lead to rampant waste of budget funds in times of war. Investigative journalists will continue to monitor this situation. We will send relevant information requests to the President of Ukraine, the Verkhovna Rada, the Prosecutor General’s Office and the State Bureau of Investigation to assess the actions of the Lviv mayor. We have to stop the plundering of the city of Lviv, which has been going on for 17 years of Andriy Sadovyi’s rule,” Vgolos news agency said in a report.
On May 25, during a session of the Lviv City Council, MP Oleksiy Riznyk read out an appeal to the National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption (NAPC) to conduct an audit of the activities of the mayor of the city. Lviv for corruption offenses.
